A New Kid In Town (Meet Carla)
When you order your wall art from Grain & Weave after a family or baby shoot, you’ll receive your gorgeous keepsakes in a custom-made felt pouch.
But have you ever wondered where these bags come from?
Well, that’s where I come in.
You won’t have met me yet, because for a while now I have been working behind the scenes at Grain & Weave, individually and lovingly sewing your pouches on my vintage Elna sewing machine I inherited from my Nanna.
Very soon, however, I will no longer be hidden behind felt and thread, so I thought I’d introduce myself…
My name is Carla and I’m going to be the new resident Content Creator for Grain & Weave online.
A little about me: I am a born and bred creative! A child of two early baby boomers, I learnt dark room photography and picked up a keen sense of DIY from my dad. My mum gave me a love of sewing and baking.
I have an interest in all things old or reclaimed, as I love the story that comes with them.
While I have been called an old-soul millennial for these antiquated art forms I call hobbies, I’ve also adopted a creative mindset in my career.
After studying print journalism and English, and completing a Masters in publishing, I worked in the magazine publishing world doing everything from becoming a deputy editor to writing, working in publication design and sub-editing.
When an opportunity came up to work with a company that combines my profession with so many of my own passions, such as creativity, real craftsmanship and buckets of soul, I couldn’t say no!
When I’m not working for Grain & Weave, you’ll find me at home in a close-knit leafy neighbourhood in Sydney’s north with my little cat Poppy, curled up with a good book and cup of tea, volunteering with the Rural Fire Service, spending time with family, or pursuing one of my many crafty upcycling projects.
So now you know a snippet about me, check back here tomorrow for some more information on what we have planned for you.
